Winemaker Shannon Jones shares his thoughts on wine and life.

Hestia Cellars – From Rugby to Wine

Check out our most recent press in Wine Spectator, as Hestia Cellars is highlighted as one of the “New Faces in Washington Wine“.

HESTIA

FROM RUGBY TO WINE
Amateur rugby player Shannon Jones was introduced to wine while his team toured in rugby-happy New Zealand. On a trip to Europe in 2000, he and his wife discovered the pleasures of including wine with every meal. Back home in Seattle, he took classes in viticulture and enology and worked at local wineries until he was ready to quit his job at a bank and start Hestia Cellars, based in the outskirts of Woodinville. Jones makes Chenin Blanc in a crisp, savory style reminiscent of Greek whites, and polishes Syrah, Malbec and Cabernet into supple reds.

Malbec Columbia Valley 2008 (92, $30)
Flavors run from plum and berry to wet stone against lively acidity and fine tannins

Syrah Columbia Valley 2008 (92, $30)
Silky in texture, this is appealing for its spicy blueberry and currant flavors

Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2008 (90, $35)
Shows floral overtones to its currant and tobacco flavors, with a refined finish
